AGENDA organized a virtual two-day lessons learned workshop on Strengthening the Capacity of Advocacy Networks in Southeast Asia (SCANSEA) on August 5-6, 2020 with seven disabled people’s organization (DPO) partners from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. IFES’ Inclusion Specialist Rebecca Aaberg and Senior Monitoring & Evaluation Officer Matthew Emery facilitated the workshop, sharing key findings from AGENDA’s pre-workshop partner survey and encouraging active participation through the accessible polling platform Mentimeter. DPO partners presented on their organization’s most successful advocacy activity from April 2019 to May 2020, including the Thailand Association of the Blind’s Conference on the implementation of the Enabling Masterplan in Thailand and Perkumpulan Penyandang Disabilitas Indonesia’s short film competition. During breakout room discussions and mapping exercise, participants identified contributing factors of their advocacy projects’ successes and discussed strategies to create more impactful collaboration between DPOs and civil society organizations to enhance advocacy for the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan 2025:Mainstreaming the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
