PPDI organized a workshop on May 16 in Jakarta on the Legal Identity and Citizenship Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Indonesia. The workshop was attended by representatives from 15 DPOs and six government agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the National Development and Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and the Presidential Secretariat Office (18 men and 20 women in total). Participants evaluated Indonesia’s laws on administration and citizenship, as well as tenets in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Masterplan on the legal and citizenship rights of persons with disabilities, to determine how to best harmonize relevant national and international legal frameworks. Participants came up with recommendations that PPDI will use to finalize its legal diagnostic and to develop a policy brief on the legal identity and citizenship rights of persons with disabilities in Indonesia.
